Week Two Mo's Self Taught Art School

The vase of flowers was my last step by step picture that I used a book to do and the orange flower is all me:). I was rather pleased with myself!!

To be or not to be an artist

For those of you who aren't aware of my ambitions, I want to write a kid's book. I am not sure if any will ever get published but I want to try. I wrote one in college that my professor said I needed to get published. However, I was encouraged to get a professional illustrator. I decided I had enough artistic ability in my genetic code that I should learn to do the pictures myself as half the fun of kid's books is in the pictures. I decided that the best medium is water color so I have been teaching myself water color painting for the last two weeks. This is my progress so far:). It is harder than it looks so don't laugh at my simplistic attempts. I will keep adding pictures of what I have done and hopefully you will see a difference.
And I guess if you don't see a difference you will hear a resounding sigh of defeat:).

Old Friends

Today Ben and I were able to have lunch with old friends of mine from Pacifica. In fact Esther played the violin at our wedding. Since we last saw them, they have been blessed with two little girls. It was so fun to see them in the role of parents.
We were entertained with sweet songs, games and the playing of our little hostess. What amazed me, the teacher, most was that this little two year old was able to put together a puzzle of the United States and tell me the name of each state as she did it. I was beyond impressed. I have seen Junior High students who have studied hard and not been able to complete this task. The best part was when she held up Michigan and said the name of it. I didn't hear her so I asked what it was and she said a horse. She held the state sideways and it is the shape of a HORSE. Sheesh how far will she go. She can remember facts and yet think outside of the box too.
The best part of meeting up with old friends is realizing why you are friends. You remember their laugh and smile. You just click. It is refreshing that even when you don't stay in touch regularly, you can start right where you left off:).

Couch Potato

I have the odd phenomenon of being a cat lover when most of my friends are cat haters. Regardless of this fact I had to put this on my blog. I looked up from my work tonight to see our cat sitting like this on the couch with the tv remote by his side. As Larry the Cable Guy would say, "I don't care who you are that there is funny."

Cold Sores!!! Why?

Ok so I am not going to post a picture with this entry as it would be disgusting. I do generally enjoy grossing my students out but not friends and family. I came down with my very first cold sore yesterday and I am seriously repulsed. I wasn't sure what was happening. I just felt my lip getting hot and big. I kept asking Ben if it looked bad. He did the wise husband thing and stayed pretty neutral to the atrocity growing on my face. He didn't realize that I had never had a cold sore before so was rather surprised when I got off the Internet saying I had found out what I had. To all out there who have suffered with these, you now have my most heartfelt sympathy. The worst part is that I go to work tomorrow. They have this bizarre theory that it will be better for me to work at the cash register where everyone can see my festering wound rather than to work in the back ground where they can't see me. I wish I could have a candid camera to see their faces when they order food from a diseased person. So I am rambling, but I have been told that is what blogs are for. I just had to share my personal tragedy with others as I am sure some of you have had these before.

Port Townsend

Pictures of Port Townsend. It is small town out on the peninsula. It was fun to visit but I couldn't imagine living there.

Deception Pass

One of the first sunny days that we had in awhile made us need to get out and about. Our friend Melissa wanted out too so we drove up to Deception Pass and then caught a ferry out to Port Townsend. It was fun to explore the area a bit. The only downer for the day was it took forever to catch ferries on our way home and we were 20 minutes late for our own Bible study that we host. Overall a good day trip. These pictures are all of Deception Pass. I'll add some more of Port Townsend.
