I got back from Christmas vacation and because of my surgery before that the kids had not seen me in almost a month. They were so excited that they came flying in the room hugging me yelling, "Mrs. Leppard's back!!!". As one left to go home that afternoon he turned to me and said, "You promise you'll be here tomorrow?" Talk about feeling loved.
I had been gone so long I had forgotten some of the things they do and say. I was walking them to lunch the first day and I forgot how small they are. Normally I stop every once in awhile to let them all catch up with the front of the line. I didn't turn around for awhile and looked back to see them frantically trying to keep up without running, which they would get in trouble for. As I ushered them into the lunch room the caboose of our line says all out of breath, "Mrs. Leppard, you have FAST feet."
You might be wondering about the teabags. I was drinking ice tea when the kids were eating lunch. I actually enjoy lunch with them as they entertain me and I can be silly with them. I was drinking my tea and making a pretend fuss about how great it was. They thought it was so funny as I "oohed and ahhed". I forgot all about this until the next week. One little girl with a lisp walks in and says, "Ms. Eppard, I have a big thurprise for you." Then she digs deep in her little pocket and pulls about the above photographed tea bag and says, "Ithe tea for you." Since then I have recieved more tea bags from other pockets.
This same tea bag darling showed up last week in new glasses. She was so stinking proud of them. She kept yelling out to teachers and friends, "I can thee you now". But the glasses didn't seem to fit her too well and stuck out wide on the sides. She was so facinated with them that she played with them all day and popped the lenses out twice. She also kept lifting them up when she was coloring or writing. Even at lunch she had one hand holding them on the top of her head and the other hand was feeding her. I asked her why and she said she couldn't see her lunch with her glasses. At the end of the day her mother came to pick her up early. As we packed her up she insisted on putting the beloved glasses in her back pack. This was odd as she had worn them all day. I assumed it was something her mother had told her. I got to the office and had this conversation.
"Good afternoon - here is ___________ and her glasses are now in her back pack."
"What glasses?"
"The glasses she wore all day at school."
"She doesn't wear glasses."
As the conversation continued tea bag darling was shrinking smaller and smaller and shuffling her feet. I pull out the glasses and her mom is furious as it turns out they are her glasses that she couldn't find. I thought it was a riot but mom was not amused. I am sure I will not be getting anymore tea bags from my little friend.
